Midtown YMCA Remodel and Expansion
Recreation Facility
The City of Wilmington has been underserved by quality aquatic facilities and limited Boys and Girls Club capacity for years so LS3P was asked to help remodel and expand the existing 15,000 SF Midtown YMCA (a former church activity space). The remodel will update and expand the Boys and Girls club and early child care capacity. The new facility will host brand new locker rooms, expanded weight and wellness areas, multi-purpose exercise studios, a 25 yard indoor swimming pool, an outdoor covered sport court (dubbed an “Airnasium”), a covered cross-fit yard, and a partner space for Novant Health to provide physical therapy and occupational therapy services. A light and airy new entry lobby connects the old and the new and serves as a unique multi-purpose space of it’s own.
Ryan served as project architect from early SD through permitting on this 32,000 SF addition, incorporating CMU, steel structure, pre-engineered metal building technologies, and prefabricated systems to create a facility of distinction to serve the city of Wilmington for many years to come. Estimated completion date April 2027. Construction cost $22 million.
